Matar Mushroom
Matar Mushroom is a flavorful North Indian curry combining mushrooms and green peas in a spicy tomato gravy.
Ingredients
- 200 grams mushrooms cleaned and sliced
- 1 cup green peas fresh or frozen
- 2 medium onions finely chopped
- 2 medium tomatoes pureed
- 1-2 green chilies finely chopped
- 1 tablespoon ginger-garlic paste
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin seeds
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1 teaspoon red chili powder
- 1 teaspoon coriander powder
- 1 teaspoon garam masala
- Salt to taste
- 2 tablespoons oil
- Fresh coriander leaves chopped (for garnish)
- 1/2 cup water adjust as needed
Instructions
Preparation:
- Clean and slice the mushrooms.
- If using fresh peas, boil them until tender. If using frozen peas, rinse them in warm water and set aside.
Cooking the Base:
- Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.
- Add cumin seeds and let them splutter.
- Add finely chopped onions and sauté until they turn golden brown.
- Add ginger-garlic paste and green chilies. Sauté for another minute until the raw smell disappears.
Making the Gravy:
- Add tomato puree and cook until the oil starts to separate from the mixture.
- Add turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, and salt. Mix well and cook for a few minutes until the spices are well incorporated.
- Cooking the Vegetables:
- Add sliced mushrooms and green peas to the pan. Mix well to coat the vegetables with the spice mixture.
- Add water and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until the mushrooms are cooked and the gravy thickens.
Final Touches:
- Add garam masala and mix well. Cook for another 2-3 minutes.
- Garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Serving:
- Serve hot with roti, naan, or rice.
